Limited Use Signatures and Marks
The University of Missouri Signature, Stacked MU, and UM Seal are limited use marks and must be approved by Licensing and Brand Management prior to use. Request approval by emailing identity@missouri.edu.

University of Missouri Signature
The University of Missouri Signature is reserved for stationery items (business cards, letterhead, e-letterhead and envelopes), wayfinding and signage. Use of the University of Missouri Signature must be approved by Licensing and Brand Management.
The University of Missouri Signatures follows the same guidelines as the primary signatures: Guidelines for Using Signatures.
Minimum Size
Horizontal Signature
The minimum size of the horizontal University Signature is:
- 1.60 inches for print materials.
- 204 pixels for web and digital materials.
Vertical Signature
The minimum size of the vertical University Signature is:
- 176 pixels for web and digital materials.
- 1.35 inches for print materials.
Stacked MU
The Stacked MU mark may not be used by itself as a logo on marketing, apparel, merchandise and promotional items. The Mizzou signature or a unit signature must be used. To request an exemption, please email identity@missouri.edu.
Approved Uses
The Stacked MU may be used in the following limited capacities:
Digital and Display Ads
- Horizontal display ads with a height of 90 px or lower may use the Stacked MU in place of a signature.
- Vertical display ads with a width of 160 px or lower may use the Stacked MU in place of a signature.
Graphic Element
The Stacked MU may be used as a graphic element on materials that are two-sided or have multiple pages. A signature is required on the material and must appear on a different page from the Stacked MU.
When used as a graphic element, the Stacked MU mark and a signature may not be on the same side or viewing area:
- Research posters are a single-sided item and may not include a Stacked MU.
- LED screens are a single-sided item and may not include a Stacked MU.
PowerPoint Presentations
The Stacked MU may be used on interior slides of the deck. A signature must be present on the first or last slide of the deck.

Promotional Items
Enamel pins and badge reels may use the Stacked MU in place of a signature. These are approved on a case-by-case basis by Licensing and Brand Management.

Social Media Images and Videos
The social media overlay pack features pre-designed overlays with the Stacked MU mark. These overlays are intended for use on photos and videos shared on social media platforms.

The Stacked MU may be printed only in the colors shown below. The full-color version should be used unless the entire print job is a single color.

Stacked MU Outline
When the Stacked MU is used on a colored background, it must have a white outline proportionate to the logo size. The outline should never be less than 0.75 points or 1 pixel.
Clear Space
Maintain a clear space equal to 1/3 of the width of the stacked MU. Do not place design elements, text or illustrations within the clear space. Make sure that page trims and fold lines do not fall within the clear space.

Stacked MU Misuse Examples
Do not make the “MU” darker than the shield.
Do not recreate or edit the Stacked MU.
Do not rotate the Stacked MU.
Do not fill the shield with a texture or photo.
Do not fill the “MU” with a texture or photo.
Do not place the Stacked MU on a busy background, including photos.
Do not use the Stacked MU as a watermark or at opacity.
Do not recolor the Stacked MU.
Do not put the Stacked MU in a shape or other kind of container.
Do not add the Stacked MU to other graphics or illustrations.
Do not add effects to the Stacked MU, this includes drop shadows and glows.
Do not put text or other graphics on top of the Stacked MU.
UM Seal
The official seal of the University of Missouri is the only symbol of the University of Missouri System. The seal is used by administrative offices of the UM System and UM Board of Curators. The seal is also used by Mizzou for graduations, merchandise and promotional items. To request permission to use the seal, email identity@missouri.edu.
Use Restrictions
- Students and student organizations may not use the UM Seal on apparel, merchandise and promotional items.
- The UM Seal may not be used on academic or research-based papers, presentations, boards or posters.
