Policy Update

Campus Apparel & Promotional Product

Policy Update

Beginning July 1, 2024 there will be several important changes made to the licensing program for campus apparel and promotional products. The university is in an RFQ process to select licensed vendors and will no longer waive royalties from licensed vendors on apparel and promotional products purchased with university dollars.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • There were 90 licensed vendors, but five of those vendors did 79% of campus business. By limiting the number of licensees, we will improve brand management and build stronger relationships with licensed vendors.
  • The RFQ process is complete and the selected licensed vendors are able to provide a wide range of products to campus. This list of licensed vendors also includes small and locally owned businesses.
  • Companies that create unique items that are not already available through selected licensed vendors may be added as a licensed vendor.
  • The additional royalties will be used to support university-wide initiatives that benefit the entire university and elevate the university brand, including the legal protection of our intellectual property.
  • The 12% royalty rate for internal campus orders is less than the standard rate of 15%.
  • Using licensed vendors is a critical part of brand management and quality control, ensuring that product bearing university marks is made in factories that adhere to corporate responsibility requirements. All licensed vendors are required to sign a code of conduct and provide factory disclosures.
  • Orders that will be exempt from royalties include uniforms required by the university to fulfill essential job functions, awards and plaques and use of logo for university sponsorship.
  • University leadership supports these changes to enhance the university’s marketing efforts.
