Campus Department Guidelines
Mizzou employees ordering apparel, merchandise or promotional items for their unit or for an upcoming event should follow these guidelines. To learn more about the Mizzou-specific and industry terms used on this page, please visit Terminology 101.
How to Order Products
- Choose a licensed vendor.
- Work with the licensed vendor to select product(s) within your budget.
- Follow the Department Design Guidelines. Whether submitting a design to a licensed vendor or working with them to create the design, the guidelines must be followed.
- The licensed vendors will submit a Product Request Form (PRF) to our office along with the final artwork for approval. The PRF is the responsibility of the licensed vendor.
- Any changes to the design to meet guidelines will be communicated to the vendor.
Design Guidelines
Follow these guidelines to ensure your product meets Mizzou identity and brand guidelines.
Required
These required elements must be on every product ordered.
- Signature
- A Mizzou or unit signature is required on all products.
- A merch mark may be provided by Licensing and Brand Management to accommodate production restrictions and keep signatures above minimum size requirements.
- When more than one unit must be represented on an item, request a multi-unit signature from identity@missouri.edu.
- Signatures must be kept separate and apart from graphics and sponsors’ names and logos.
- Download Signatures
- A Mizzou or unit signature is required on all products.
- Unique design
- Designs must be unique to your area and can not copy designs found in the retail market.
Optional
Use of the below Mizzou trademarks and verbiage is optional. When using trademarks and verbiage, all guidelines must be followed:
- Trademarks
- Available trademarks include the Spirit Tiger Head, Athletic Tiger Head and Truman the Tiger.
- When using these trademarks, they must have visual separation from graphics, text, signatures and other logos. Custom Truman the Tigers are the exception with approval from identity@missouri.edu.
- The trademarks may not be altered, tampered with, modified, incorporated into other marks or overprinted with words or design elements.

- Verbiage
- Verbiage used on apparel and product requires the appropriate registration mark or trademark:
University of Missouri®, Missouri®, MU™, Missouri Tigers®, Tigers™, Mizzou®, Mizzou Tigers™, Mizzou-rah™, Truman™, The Zou™, MIZ™, ZOU™, MIZZOUMADE™
- Verbiage used on apparel and product requires the appropriate registration mark or trademark:
Do Not Include
The following items may not be included in product designs:
- Athletic font or similar looking fonts.
- Use of a current student athlete’s name, nickname or likeness. Any use of a student athlete’s name, nickname or picture must be approved by the MU Compliance Office.
- Trademarks from other entities or derivatives of those marks.
- Mizzou’s name or logo may not be used in connection with the promotion of alcohol, firearms, tobacco or other drugs, or in connection with pornography or other forms of expression limited by law.
Examples of Apparel Designs
Design examples illustrate the required elements on different products. They are not a dictation of design.
T-Shirts | Three Imprint Areas
These t-shirt designs have three imprint areas (front, back and sleeve) and include all the requirements of the design guidelines. All designs include a signature. Appropriate registration marks on trademarked verbiage will be added by the licensed vendor.

T-Shirts | Two Imprint Areas
These t-shirt designs have two imprint areas (front and back.) Alternately, the sleeve imprint could be used in place of the front or back. All the requirements of the design guidelines are included. Appropriate registration marks on trademarked verbiage will be added by the licensed vendor.

Polos
These examples show polos that meet design guidelines. All designs must include a signature. If polos are embroidered, Licensing and Brand Management may provide a merch mark to the licensed vendor.

Small Imprint Items
Small imprint items include pens, pencils, flash drives, sunglasses, stress balls, webcam covers, etc. These items require a signature, however, the full signature may not meet production restrictions or minimum size requirements. If this is the case, a merch mark will be provided to the licensed vendor by Licensing and Brand Management.
